THE MARINE BOROUGHS.

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. COXSOLIDATIOX OF BY-LAWS.. A meeting of the Marine Boroughs' Association was held last evening. Mr. T. Lamont presided. The City Council wrote stating that the association's request to have the present taxi stand moved from Quay Street, or failing that, to reduce the number of taxis allowed on the stand i from six to four, had been considered and declined. The .council lurther stated that it was fully aware of the traffic conditions at the Quay Street lerries during the busy hours, and that the matter was at present under consideration. In reply to the association's request to provide shelter sheds at Bayswater and Stanley Bay wharves, the Harbour Board replied that this could not be carried out, but that the board would have no objection to building the shelters provided the residents of the districts concerned found the cost. The reply was considered unsatisfactory, asi the present shelters were inadequate. I Messrs. Lamont, Gaudin and Ilayden | were appointed a deputation to wait on J the chairman of the Harbour Board. On the motion of Mr. E. Aldridge, it was decided to obtain from Mr. Powe'l, C.E., the data which he prepared in connection with the' waterfront causeway scheme. Mr. Powell is to be invited to address members of the four councils on the subject at an early date. Along discussion took place concerning the amalgamation of the four marine boroughs. The following resolu--1 tion, moved by Mr. Aldridge, was unanimously carried: —"That the Marine Boroughs' Association recommend that the boroughs of Devonport, Takapuna, Birkenhead and Northcote should co-operate in the preparation of by- ; laws, so as to ensure .uniformity of local i government in the transhar, bour subj urbs."
