OBITUARY.

MR. R. CHAPMAN-ANDERSON, C_E. The death of Mr. R. Chapman-Ander-son, C.E., at his residence, Park Crescent, Parnell, aged 79 years, removes a much-respected resident of this city for over 30 years. Mr. Chapman-Ander-son was a native of Scotland, and while still a young man was appointed by the Imperial Government to an important position as a civil engineer, in India, where his elder brother, Mr. S. ChapmanAnderson, was a magistrate for many years. For reasons of health Mr. R. Chap-man-Anderson resigned his position in India and returned to England, afterwards coming to New Zealand, where he was appointed to the Land and Survey Department. Some years ago he retired gn superannuation. Deceased was highly esteemed for his many sterling qualities, which had endeared him to all with whom he was connected. He is survived by his widow and daughter, Miss Maud Chapman-'Andcrson) who is well known in musical circles.

!Many friends in this city will learn with regret of the death of Mr. John i Menzies, at his residence, Remuera. Mr. | Menzies was a native of Perthshire, j Scotland, and came to New Zealand in 11576 to join his uncle, who then owned , the City Club Hotel, Auckland. In conI junction with his uncle, Mr. Menzies con- j ducted several hotels in Auckland. Later j he had the Tauranga Hotel, better known as "Menzies." He was very popular with the guests, and also residents in the district. In fact, Mr. Menzies, by his courteous, obliging manner made friends of all who came into contact with him. In 1887 Mr. Menzies took over the management of Lake House, Rotorua, for the trustees of the late Mr. Robert Graham, which position he retained until he accepted the man- . agement of the Northern. Club, Auckland. He left that to manage the Pacific j Club when it opened, and afterwards ! accepted the management of the Auckland Club, which he resinned recently on account of .failing health. Mr. Menzies was a member of the Masonic fraternity, a Past Master of Lorlee Tauranga, 1.C., and in Auckland affiliated with Lodffc St. Andrew, S.C. He was also a member of the Auckland Yacht Club, and the Auckland Bowling Club. Deceased is survived by bis wife land a family.

MR. W. S. DAVIDSON. (By Telegraph— Pr '""' Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. The death is announced at Edinburgh! on July 17 of Mr. W. S. Davidson, for 40 years manager of the New Zealand and Australian Land Company and a director of the National Mortgage Agency.
