(1) H. Liddell, the Scottish .printer, who won the 400 metres in the record time of 47 3-ss, with threa yards to .pare, beating several who had beaten hint previously in the heats. (2) H. M. Abrahams, winner of tbe hundred metres sprint at the Olympi :;G_m«. He is 24 years of age, and was educated at Cambridge. He proved himself a great sprinter, being an "even timer" for the century dash, and doing over 23 feet for tbe long jump. He equalled the world', record of 9 3-5s for the 100 yards this season, and won the British championship in 9 9-10s some three w.eks ago. (3) Paan Nurmi, the Finnish middle distance champion, who played with the opposition in the 15,000 metres, 10,000 metres, and 3000 metres, the only athlete to win three events at the one meeting. Nurmi holds the world's records for one, three and six miles, and he astounded the athletic world by his mc hod of timing himself by a stop-watch and running -in sand shoes.
