I Amongst many good stories told by Sir Thomas Lipton, the famous yachts- ! man, is one concerning a certain ama--1 teur sailor whose attempts at joining the exceedingly exclusive Royal Yacht Squadron had been repeatedly rejected. At last one day the disgusted candidate turned up at Cowes, flying from his masthead a pennant showing the legend M.0.8.V.5. There were anxious discussions as to what these letters could represent, and as last the squadron descended sufficiently from its dignity to inquire. "Those letters," said the owner huffily, "stand for 'My Own Blooming Yacht Squadron.' "
