A woman or girl with a clear skin and a complexion of milk and roses is envied by all her friends. While it is not possible for every woman to have a soft clear ekin and a pink and white complexion, in many cases the skin could be improved if a little care and attention were bestowed upon it. It is impossible to have a good complexion if the health is not good. Therefore the first thing to be done if one has a poor skin and no colour, is to pay attention to one's health. As much exercise as possible should be taken, and it should be remembered that the finest exercise in the world is walking. Fresh air is also a priceless aid to a, good complexion. The woman who sleeps with her bedroom windows shut cannot hope to have roses in her checks in the day. Plenty of sleep, too, is important, for if insufficient sleep is taken the skin becomes drawn and black shadows gather under the eyes. Diet plays an important part in contributing to a. clear complexion. Plenty of fruit and vegetables should be eaten, and not too many fancy cakes, sweets, and too much sugar. These last are inclined to make the skin blotchy. Then care should be taken in the soap which is used for the face. If it is at all possible only rain water should be used for washing the face, and only the very best soap, made of vegetable oils. If it is impossible to use rain water, use water which has been boiled and allowed to become cold, into which a little bag containing oatmeal has stood for a few hours. The face should be washed thoroughly at right with this water, which can be warmed, and afterwards the face should be gently nibbed with a little pure cold cream. The surplus cream can be wiped off with an old soft handkerchief, and in the morning the facfi should be washed in the cold boiled water without soap.
