SINGULAR WEDDING SCENE.
SCENE AT REGISTERY. STRENUOUS OPPOSITION. A brother's protests led to a scene at the Oxford Register Office when a 22-years-old undergraduate and a 21-years-old undergraduette were about to be married. The bridegroom was Benjamin Cecil Widdowson, a chemistry student, and the bride Miss Katherine Mary Wintringham Workman. Just as the marriage was about to take place the brother of the bridegroom put in an appearance, and in the presence of the bride endeavoured to persuade him not to marry. The young man would not listen to his brother, who argued heatedly that he was '«n young and ought to wait a couple o£ yea rs. Warned that if the marriage took place the father would cut him off, the young man replied that he did not care. The bride, although a little perturbed, was not distressed. When the registrar attempted to proceed with the ceremony a policeman had to be called. The protesting brother was then removed, and the marriage took place. Miss Workman is described as a daughter of n Colonial Secretary, her father's name being given as Charles Rufus Marshall Workman.
