Walton, Mayor of Birkenhead, returned from Wellington by this morning's express. Messrs. F. Fleming (Dargaville), E. P. Taylor (Christehurch), J. T, Spears, L. Shepherd, and G. H. Forsythc (Wellington) are at the Star Hotel. Mr. W. P. Gauvain and Mr. E. Davis, who have been visiting Wellington, returned to Auckland this morning, and are staying at Cargen. Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., will be absent from Auckland for about a fortnight. He has gone to Rotorua to relieve I ono of the magistrates in that town. I Mr. J. McEldowney, of Wellington, is 'in Auckland to meet his son, Mr. W. SlcEldowney, who is returning from. England. * Recent arrivals at the Central Hotel include Messrs. J. B. Gainsford (Bulls), P. Tullock (Pahiatua), G. Springhall (Wellington), and J. Henderson (Lake Ohia). I The Hon. A. F. Hawke, M.L.C., Sir John Luke, Messrs. J. Horn, and E. J. Howard, M.P.'s, who are going to South -Africa at the invitation of the Government of the Union of South Africa, left Wellington by the Maheno for Sydney yesterday. ■ Sir James Gunson, Mayor of Auckland, returned from Wellington to-day. Liout.-Colonel Arnold Caddy, president of the Red Poll Cattle Breeders' Association of Australasia, who adjudicated in the Red Poll section at the last Melbourne Royal Show, has consented to act as one of the judges of cattle at the first New Zealand Royal Show, to be held at I Palmerston North in November next,
