THE UNEMPLOYED.
SLIGHT INCREASE RECORDED. The number of applicants for employment on the waiting list at the Labour Department to-day was 194, which is an increase over last week's figures of 11. As usual, labourers head th list with 74 applicants, cooks and hotel workers coming next with 15, and then storemen with 12 applicants. A departure from the usual list of these unemployed is the appearance of five carpenters. During the week five men were dispatched to Works, and the following placed in private employment:—Eleven labourers, three farmhands, and a carpenter, cook, electrical j worker, handyman, motor driver, and nightwatchman.
