POLITICS IN VICTORIA.
GOVERNMENT DEFEATED. LABOUR LEADER SENT FOR. MELBOURNE, July 17. The Victorian Cabinet has resigned, following a defeat in the Legislative Assembly. Mr. G. M. Prendcrgaat (Leader of the Labour party) last night moved an amendment to the Address-in-Reply, which was accepted as a no-confi-dence motion. After a spirited debate, the amendment was carried toy 43 votea to IG. The Assembly thereupon adjourned. The Premier (Sir Alex. Peacock) to»day tendered his resignation of the Cabinet. He did not advise the Qovernor as to whom he should send for. His Excellency sent for Mr. Prendergast, who is understood to bo forming a Ministry.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
