Detective Knight deposed that Lodge was an assisted immijjrant, ami came from England three years ago. He I had been on a farm at Tamaki, but came ito Auckland about three weeks ago. Later he had been arrested when attempting to leave Auckland by train. .Lodge was convicted on the second charge of false pretences, and placed on probation for two years. I Stanley Lawrence George Couch (43), I who pleaded guilty to a charge of break - j ing and entering by day the premises of Sidney Eowbottom, in Grey Street, and stealing £1, was committed to the J Supreme Court for sentence.
