AVONDALE. A meeting of the Avondale Borough Council was held last evening the Mayor (Jlr W J Talt) presiding. There were aWpresent: Oouncillors .1. B. Clarke- H. Potter, E. Croft, A. E. Lord, V,. W. Wilson, C D. Jones, G. Malcolm, and A. fc,. L,iacKman. An apology was received from Councillor P. Turner, who was called away to Fiji on business. Leave of absence for four weeks was granted. Valuations.—Mr. S. Thomas, who was appointed by the council as assessor to represent the council at the Assessment Court, reported that several objections were heard, but all the assessments were sustained ivltn the exception of that of Messrs. Allpert and l'oolcy, which, on account of the wrong property being valued, was altered by arrangement from £1525 to. £500. Motor Bus Service.—The Auckland Town Clerk reported that the Auckland City Council was unable to consider at present the application of the Avondale Borough Council for a share of the motor buses which the City Council Is obtaining. Proposed Water Board.—The , District j Medical Officer of Health wrote inquiring j If the council would favour the formation Of a metropolitan water board to control the water supply from the Auckland metro- I poiltan area. It wns resolved to reply that until the council had more information on the proposal it was not prepared to express an opinion on the subject. Subdivisions.—The following subdivisions were approved: Lot 15 of allot S4. Manuiau Koad, for Mr. Gilchrist; part allot. 75, Avondale South, for Mr. Slevin. Motor Traffic.—A memorandum from the Mayor of Auckland relating to traffic conditions was received, .and It was resolved to reply that the Avondale Borough Council was of opinion that the time had come when the matter of motor traffic and licensing fees should be taken up seriously i oj all the local bodies, and suggesting that , a conference be called at an early date for the purpose of discussing the ques- . tion.
