FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE.

■ ■ t. .. ... STRINGENT MEASURES URGED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Council of Agriculture discussed tbe matter of foot and mouth disease. It was decided that, in view of the continued spread of foot and mouth disease in England, and the grave danger of its being carried into the Dominion, the Department of Agriculture be urged to investigate every avenue through which it might be introduced into New Zealand, and that the most stringent regulations be framed and enforced; further, that the penalty now provided is entirely inadequate in proportion to the enormous financial loss which must follow even a minor outbreak in New Zealand. A vote of thanks to Dr. Reakes and his Department for the work already done was carried unanimously.
