A TOTAL LOSS. Another disastrous fire occurred at Takapuna this morning, and the place and contents became a total loss. Tho property was a six-roomed cottage situated in Jutland Street, near Hauraki Road, and it was owned and occupied by Mr. Charles Hayles. No one knows exactly how the fire started, but at about two o'clock this morning the inmates were awakened by the smell of smoke, and when they discovered the fire it had a good hold. The local brigade, which was recently formed, was not present, it is stated owing to some misunderstanding, but tho Devonport brigade turned up, and did what it could to save the place. By the time it arrived, however, it was hopeless, and the building and its contents went up in smoke. The house was insured for £725 in the New Zealand Office, and the contents for £250.
