The contractor for the new town hall j bas a staff of men at wort digging out the foundations and generally preparing for building operations. The assembling of the plant at the new brick and tile works is proceeding rapidly, 1 and it is expected that the works will be . prodaciiig bricks curly next month. I At a public meeting held last night it was resolved to extend a. civic welcome to > ; the English Rugby League football team. > which plays a match here on 2Sth inst. -In the evening the visitors will be extended II a Maori welcome in the large kiwikiwi I hall in the pa. On the following morning i they will be motored out to Waingaro, and given an ovporrunity to bathe in the j I hot springs there. The party will return i ]to Xgaruawahia for lunch, and leave for I I Auckland by the Thames express. j A ladips - hockey club was formed hero ; a few weeks back, and has three repre-! sentatives in the Waikato team at present ; playing in Auckland for the White Uorse 1 Cup. The young ladies are very enthusi- , astic about the game. j
