RUNNING THE RAILWAYS.
IMPROVED CONDITIONS SECURED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. Since the strike several improvements in working conditions of the railwaymer compared with those imposed by the Department immediately after the strike have been secured by the Amalgamated Society in negotiation, apart from its claims before the W 'ges Board. The restrictions on children's privilegf tickets have been completely removed and guards have been granted two hours standing time at home stations when no', off eight hours between shifts. Travelling time is being paid t< i gangers and surfacemen when taken oE their usua length to do work elsewhere Leading line erectors will receive the same payment as leading signal erectors which means an increase of 1/6 per day The provisions of regulation 67 regard ing light allowance are being extended tc line gangers, which improves their posi tion in this respect. '
