Lady Jellicoe has been the guest of Mrs. Riddiford at Marton, whore she followed the Rancitikei hounds. Miss Enid White left by the Xiagan. for a holiday trip to * Sydney and Colombo, and intends to be away between six and nine months. It is the intention of Miss Joan Cleghome and Miss Kathleen Raymond to leave by the Niagara on the eighth of «ext month for a holiday trip to Honolulu. The Hon. Lucy Jelliooe, daughter of Viscount and Lady Jellicoe. is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. f. 11. Lowry at Ukawa station for the Hawke's Bay races. Mrs. R. Champtaloup, oi Auckland, has been visiting relatives in Nelson. Mis 3 Binny, Auckland, who has been spending some time in Christchureh, lias left for the North. Mrs Dumbleton, who ha? l>?en on a visit to Auckland, has returned to Rotorua. Miss K. Clark and Mis.-? M. Clark left Auckland by the Niagara on Tuesday last, en route to Sydney for a holiday. 'Mr. Justice Herdman, with Mrs. arid Miss Herdman, left for Wellington by Friday evening's train. Miss Kathleen Malone, advance agent and press representative for the Celebrity Concert Company, left to-day by the Marama on her return to Sydney and Melbourne. She has spent "three months in New Zealand, which she says is a very wonderful country. Miss Malone hopes to return next vsar. A "Birthday Party" was held by the Auckland Lyceum Club last evenins to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the founding. There was a good gathering of members in the lounge which was tastefully decorated with pot plants, arum lilies and ferns. The actingpresident, Mrs. B- Buttle, welcomed the members and erpressed good birthday wishes to all present. As is usual on birthdays a large, decorated cake, on which were burning five candles, was in the place of honour, and was cut by the first president, Mrs. W. R. Wilson, in the presence of the members. A musical programme arranged by the musical circle was then carried oui., and included songs by Mrs. A. Kinder, Miss Stone, and Mr. Thompson, with selections by a stringed orchestra, with 'Miss Hams accompanying. The club benefited by many gifts from members. A very enjoyable evening was spent at the Victoria Hall, Devonport, on Tuesday evening to celebrate the engagement of Miss Gladys Barton to Mr. Ken. Tippett. The hall was decorated by Mrs. Barton and Mrs. Harp, and supper was laid in the supper room. Dancing and games were indulged in until a late hour. Amongst those present were Miss Gladys Barton, Miss D. Chegwin, Miss A. Ratcliff, Miss C. Ratcliff, Miss G. Johnston, Miss RBush, Miss C. Cato, Mrs. Dunsford, Miss Williame, Miss McEwen, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Harp, Mrs. Murray. An enjoyable "coin" afternoon tea was given on Wednesday by Mesdames E. R. Vickerman and A. Hardy at Mrs. Hardy's residence, Grafton Road, in aid of the St. Mary's Homes at Otahuhu. Interesting addresses were given by Miss Alice Wilson (secretary), Mrs. (Dr.) Talbot, and Miss Girdler, touching on the work being done at the HomesSongs were Tendered by Miss Vera Mackay and the Misses West (2). Afternoon tea was served to the large number of guests present. At the conclusion of the function a hearty rote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. Vickerman and Mrs. Hardy for having organised such a. successful entertainment, both from a social and financial point of view. Amongst those present were Mesdames Averill, A. Nathan, Talbot, Hunt, White. Stereeher, Gillespie, E. M. Vickerman, Daw, Gordon Bell, Joe Wilson, Tuke, Wilkinson, Jasper Calder, James, Marriner, Wingfield, Kissling, Tancred, Beattie, Carlton Hay, Nicholson, D. D. Vickerman, Goldie, Cowie, Gilfillan, Whitney, Mellars, Hardie Neil, Stride, Hogben, Nock, King and the Misses Fenwick (Dunedin), Willoughby, Filleul, Bent, Herrold, Howard, Brown, Mackay, West (2), Warren, Tancred, Workman. WAIKATO NOTES. Ah enjoyable bridge evening was recently given by Miss Christophers in honour of her guest, Mrs. R. Young (Greymouth), who has been on a visit to Cambridge. Bridge was played in the drawing room, which was decorated with delicate pink camellias and green foliage. Those present were: Mrs. Christophere, Miss Christophers, Mrs. Young, Mrs. AH. Niccol, Mrs. Stapley, Mrs. Sutherland, Miss Cox, Mrs. M. Wells, Mrs. B. Couper, Miss Gwynneth, Mrs. W. H. Reed, Miss Dunne. After evensong at St. George's, Frankton, on Sunday night, the parishioners gathered in the parish hall, the occasion being a farewell to Mr. Pildritch, who leaves shortly for Australia to join the House of the Ascension at Goulbourn. The vicar, the Rev. F. Harty, on oehalf of the vestry and the parishioners, presented Mr. Pildritch with a handsome travelling nig. The recipient replied in a short speech and thanked those present for their kindness. On Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Ellicott entertained a number of their friends at a musical evening at their home, Frankton. Mrs. Ellicott was wearing a frock of emerald green silk; Miss M. Ellicott had on a jade green georgette frock. The guests were: Rev. and Mrs. F. Hartv, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Bunyard, Mr. "and Mrs. Binney, Miss Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Greenslade, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Powell, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Williams, Miss Bryan, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Green, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, Mr. J. O'Grady, Mr. Field, Mr. G. Bunyard. On Monday evening in St. Peter's Parish Hall a concert was given in aid of the new tennis courts in connection i with the church. An excellent pro- i gramme, organised by Mr. T. Lucas, j choirmaster of St. Peter's, was pre- j sented. Items were given by the folI lowing performers:—Mrs. J. McKinnon, ' Mrs. Sinclair Arthur, Miss Musker, Miss G. Hill, Miss D. Vautier, Miss Kirby, Messrs. Eade, Lucas, Outtrim. The accompanists were Mrs. H. G. Ross and Miss Hill. After the concert the hall was cleared and dancing took place. Miss Marie Austin's pupils gave a dance recital at Te Awamutu on Monday night, when there was a large audience. Those who contribnted to the programme were: —Misses Ahier, Patterson, Nation, Neilson, Thomas, Williame, Townsend, Gibson, Langmuir, Zellman, Johns, Cross, Jonathan, Killip, Scott, K. ; Peebles, L.
