WATERFRONT "TRAMWAY."
CONDITIONS OF LAYING. The conditions which should be prescribed by the City Council in respect to the Harbour Board's proposed "tramway" in Quay Street to connect up with existing railway sidings were the subject of a report by the City Engineer to the council last night. He suggested that the line should be laid to lines and levels approved by the council; that the track should be laid on jarrah sleepers of approved dimensions, resting on a sin bod of six-to-one concrete, filled in between the sleepers to the top level thereof; that the space between the raile and for 2ft on either side be pavedwith jarrah blocks, or other approved paving of equal quality; and that the board maintain the track itself, the area between the rails and for 2ft outside them, to the satisfaction of the council. As to the conditions in respect 'to the use of the tracks, he took it they would be dealt with by a general'clause in the agreement, and subject to such regulations as might be-found-from time to time necessary. The council approved the stated conditions for submission to the board and referred to the City Solicitor the question of drawing up general conditions.
