SEEKING EMPLOYMENT.

~——— ——#—______________ LABOUR DEPARTMENT'S EFFORTS. The number of applicants for work on the unemployment books of the Labour Department to-day was 141, of whom 92 were classed as fit for heavy and 49 for light work. Labourers figure prominently on the list with 40 applications, and motor drivers are second with 13. Practically all trades are covered by one or more applications. During the week the Department placed 44 men in work, the Public Works accommodating 16 labourers, two bridge carpenters, and one joiner. Private employment was found for 11 labourers, and one each of the following: Farm hand, blacksmith's striker, joiner, scrubcutter and spawler.
