INCREASE IN SHIPPING.
GROWING PORT OF AUCKLAND.
BIG IMPROVEMENT EAST TEAR. ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES. A big increase in both arrivals and departures for the past year is revealed by the annual shipping figures for the port of Auckland.
The net tonnage represented by vessels entering the port for the twelve months amounts to 2,213,527, as compared with 1,841.260 tons for 1922, and 1,800,193 for 1921. This is an increase of over 20 per cent. A similar increase took place in vessels leaving the port, these representing a net tonnage of 2,203.572, compared with 1,808,472 tons for last year, and 1,750,844 for 1921. In both instances the increases were almost entirely accounted for by large shipping. The monthly figures for the past year arc as follows:—
