RED GUARDS STRIKE.
AFTER MYSTERIOUS MURDERS. GHOST OF IVAN THE TERRIBLE. (Received 9.30 a.m.) MOSCOW, January 1. Red Guards in Lenin's palace at Kremlin struck following the mysterious murders in the corridors at midnight. On two successive nights the guard was found dead with a dagger in his breast uud no trace of the murderers. On the third night a guard was found unconscious and wounded. He declared that the ghost of Ivan The Terrible attacked him and accused him of betraying Russia. Redoubled civilian volunteer guards have replaced tlie terrified soldiers.
The struggle within the Communist party, which seemed to have been abating, has been renewed as fiercely as ever. The Central groups are determined to drop Trotsky unless he unconditionally accepts their views.— ("Times.")
