ASKED TO BE MODEST.
GERMANS WHO GO ABROAD.
! OSTENTATION IN HOTELS. S "GIVING THE SHOW AWAY." (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 4.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 1. The "Times" correspondent at Berlin says newspapers are publishing grave leaders- warning countrymen travelling abroad to avoid giving offence or exhibiting vulgar ostentation. Recently, according to the "Lokal Anzeiger," there were no fewer than 60 Germans at one of the most expensive Lucerne hotels. It also reports that Germans are almost the sole visitors at the most expensive hotels in Basle and Zurich at present. The "Lokal Anzeiger" adds: "When Germany is appealing to the world to help her starving people, it is unseemly that German industrialists should be giving dinners at Swiss towns with prewar lavjshness. They are therefore advised to be more modest in their behaviour."— ("Times.")
