SUNSHINE AND SHOWER,

PAST YEAR'S WEATHER.

A "WET" TWELVE MONTHS The weather for the last few days of 11923 was on its best behaviour, ami tended to make those who had been disappointed at some time or other during the year forget their grievance and join the " countless hundreds of holiday makers in their various forms of pleasure and merriment.

The conditions for the past month, throughout which Auckland was favoured with fine week-ends, did much to atone for the unfavourable weather that was experienced at the birth of 1923, the rainfall for last January being only exceeded by that of June. As is nearly always the case, there have been minor wet and dry spells, but the weather on the whole has been in. keeping with the usual conditions acco. ciated with this "Queen City of the North." The rainfall for the month of June, however, is worthy of special note, the fall of 8.95 inches being considerably greater than any other month within the past five years. Rain fell on every day of the latter month, with but a single" exception, the heaviest fall being on the 22nd, when a fall of 1.05 inches was registered. The driest month was March, with a total rainfall of l.TGin. The recent dry spell that wag experienced in December caused much alarm in all sections of the community, and was broken only just in time to prevent a serious check in primary production.

The rainfall for the past year, as 1 registered at the Albert Park observa N I tory by the Government weather I observer". Captain A. Davies, amounted I to 49.05 inches, a figure that is 5.34 I inches above the yearly average of 43.T1 I inches taken over a period of 66 years [ up to 1921. The following table shows the monthly I rainfalls in inches in Auckland for the \ past five years:—
