SHOOTING.

AUCKLAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION

FIFTIETH ANNUAL MEETING.

The fiftieth annual prize meeting of the Auckland Rifle Association was held at Penrose on Monday and New Year's Day. The conditions for the meeting were good, there being just sufficient wind to make the shooting interesting. The work of organising the competitions was ably carried out by the secretary, Mr. C. R. Harrington." while the shooting at the firing points was in charge of President G. H. Hughes and Mr. C. Simpson. All the competitions, with the exception of the Service Match, were fired under the rules of the association, which allow the use of aperture sights and slings. Only the regulation sights were permitted in the "Service," all slings, etc., being barred. Owing to the absence of disc targets the latter match was fired on the "bull's eye"' targets. Prior to the commencement of the shooting reference was made to the deaths of two life members, Messrs. J. Parslow and A. Henderson. Although competitors came from all parts of tbe province and a few from the South, the entries for the various events were considerably below expectation. The association looks forward to the time when the Government will again grant free passes to competitors. It is thought that this regrant will considerably increase the attendance. For tbe first time since the war free ammunition was granted by the Government. Results follow: — AVOXDALE MATCH. (Ten shots at 000 yds.) Eifieman C.
