DRYING UP THE SHIPS.
RETALIATORY MEASURES. SUGGESTED IN ENGtAJID. LONDON, June 14. In the Douse of Commons, Colonel .T. ! Nail (Conservative) moved the second reading of a private member's bill to stipulate that all ships entering Uritish ports shall carry reasonable supplies of alcoholic liquors for requirements of the passengers and crew. Mr. Xall declared that this would be a sensible and logical consequence of the United States' action in reference to ships entering her ports. sir F. BaJnbury (Con.) seconded the reading. Mr. C. G. Amnion (I/abour) described the hill as an insult to the American people. Cries of "No" were raised, and Sir F. Bainbury interjected: "I am not in • the habit of taking things lying clown." (Cheers.) The debate was adjourned.— (A. and ' N.Z. Cable.) TRENCH CREW'S THREAT. NEW YORK, June 14. Before the French liner France sailed . for Havre, 270 of the crew of GOO served notice on the captain that they would not return with the ship to Xcw York if the regulation forbidding a wine ration in American territorial waters continued ; to be effective. • The crew while in port have been • without wine. Officers of the company ' announced that the notice would be dis- ■ regarded. No wine would be served while ■ in American territorial waters, and the i schedule would be maintained at all costs.
