OTAMATEA COUNCIL.
■ i (By Oar Special Correspondent.) PAPAROA, this day. At Otamatea Council Council meeting on Monday, the clerk reported re the proposed deviation of Valley Road to the station. A peculiar position was revealed after the council had negotiated with owners of the land and arranged terms of compensation. It now transpires that this road was legalised by the Government under the Public AVorks Act in 1915, and the whole case Is now to be heard by the Public AA'orks Department. In writing, the chairman urged the Council to take up the matter of afforestation. Ruawai settlers complained of serious damage to Robertson's Road through haulage of timber, and it was resolved to notify parties responsible that they will be held liable for repairs. The clerk reported that precedent consent of the Governor-in-Council to Koraiti fruit lands loan had been secured. The Kalpara Hospital Board levy on the Council was stated to be £039 9/. Expenditure of general rate moneys wag allocated to all ridings. The Raupo branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union asked for erection of waiting rooms and conveniences at Raupo and Ruawai wharves The Council regretted that as the rates" were all allocated no funds would be available. Re repairs to swamp road at-Marcretu, it was resolved to ask the Public Works Department to undertake this on account of damage by their traffic.
