Sir Harry Lauder "cracked" one or two jokes at the Auckland Rotary Club lunch to-daj , . The appearance of a clergyman attending the lunch reminded him of the minister who handed a beggar a piece of bread, with the remark, "Not for your sake, nor for my sake, but for the Master's sake." The" beggar looked at the bread and then handed it back with the remark, "'Not for my sake nor for your sake, would you" mind putting butter on it." Another yarn was one he told on the stage last evening. A butcher, '-aving cut off a piece of steak for. a man, r marked that it was as tender as a woman's heart. The customer, evidently with a different idea of women's hearts from that of the butcher, hurriedly changed his order to a pound of sausages.
