Reference was made at tile animal meeting of shareholders in Wilsons X.Z. I'ortlaml Cement Company this afternoon to the arrangement made with the Golden Hay Cement Company. Sir <Jeorge Elliot 'said: "At the last election, and at the by-ole.-tioiis, certain politicians again unfairly referred to the closing down of the Golden Hay Cement Works. The arrungemeiit was made at a time when the cement trade in New Zealand was stagnant, and when all three companies were heavily over-stocked with cement. The arrangement did not result in prices lie ing raised or' even maintained: as an actual fact, it enabled companies to make an immediate reduction in the price of cement."
