BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING
At a meeting of the Ngaruawahia Borough Council estimates submitted by the Finance Committee for the current year showed the income, Including outstanding accounts, £4(jlXi, of which £1100 will U available for work'ou the roads. Tho "Works Committee submitted a scheme of public works including forming, sanding and gravelling roads, and clearing blackberries and gorse. Two deputations waited on the council, one from the K.S.A. asking the council to subsidise moneys raised on "Poppy Day , the other from the Beautifying Society asking tbat the -Poppy Day funds be spent on improving the railway frontage. Ihe council voted a subsidy of 30/ in the £ to augment the £35 raised by the It.S.A It wis decided the sum should be spend on cutting noxious weeds, trimming footpaths, etc The proposal to beautify the railway frontage was rejected, lt. was agreed that returned men should have preference on all borough work. •V proposal to establish swimming baths in the Wnik.-ito River w.-is approved.
