RAIN ON TWENTY-SIX DAYS,
TOTAL OF 4.12 INCHES RECORDED.
The rainfall for the month of May, as observed at the Albert Park Observatory by Captain W. W. Stuart, totalled 4.12 in, which is ,30in below the average for the month. A heavier fall was recorded in the previous month, when 5.73 in were registered. The highest fall for May during the past sixty-nine years is that of 1017, when B.olin were recorded, and the lowest in 1881, when the fall was only .95in. Last month rain fell on twenty-six days out of the thirty-one, and on May 13 the maximum of .58in was experienced. The average daily velocity of the wind last May was 110.1U miles. The maximum velocity for the month was on May 21, when 212 miles were registered during the twenty-four hours. There was a total of 110 hours 20 minutes of bright sunshine last month, and on May 8 the maximum of 8 hours 12 minutes was recorded. There were two days without recorded sunshine. The mean barometric reading for May was 29.832 in. On May 1 the barometer stood at its highest reading of 30.347 in, and on May 0 at its lowest of 29.385 in. The mean maximum temperature was 62.95deg, and the minimum 53.23deg. The extreme maximum temperature was recorded on May 3, when the reading was 07.1deg, and the extreme minimum temperature occurred on May 17, when the thermometer went down to 45,2deg.
