AUCKLAND RACING CLUB. GREAT NORTHERN MEETING. OPENING DAY'S RACING. I THE BIG HURDLE RACE. The Auckland Racing- Club's Great northern Meeting, which Is generally considered to be the most Important Jumping: fixture in the Dominion, will be commenced at Ellerslie to-morrow (Saturday), when one or the principal events or the gathering-, Ihe Great Northern Hurdle Race, will come up lor decision. Seventeen still remain In the event, and there Is every likelihood or at least lirteen going- to the post, which will ensure a most interesting- race. Under the law no Indication can be given as to the chances of the various candidates, and lt will sufllce to say that the event bears a very open appearance. The Cornwall Handicap, | which is next in importance to the Hurdle | Race, has drawn an acceptance of -Its, I while, with tho exception or the Green Lane Steeplechase, In which, however, the event is made very Interesting by the tact that Vocirerate, Sllvcrton, and I\o Bother, | which claim engagements In the Great i Northern Steeplechase, are among the acceptors, the Ilelds promise to be exceptionally (food, and the racing- or a lilg-n- | class character.
