UNHYGIENIC SCHOOLS.
RESPONSIBILITY OF PARENTS. (By Telegraph.—l'ress Association.) DUNEDIN, Friday. Dealing with Dr. Macdonald's remarks about unhygienic schools. Mr. Wallace, chairman of the Otago Education Board, stated that schools were being re-modelled as money and opportunity offered. The critic hardly gave the board credit for what had already been accomplished. Six schools which he had not visited were so re-modelled. One school mentioned by the doctor was erected on the plans of the. late Dr. liroivn, the then Board's chairman, which went to show how ideas were changing. Mr. Wallace also stated that children spent 18 hours daily away from school. and if tho earae attention as teachers gave to hyjriene were given in homos the task of schoolmasters would be lightened. The present trend, relieving parents of responsibilities, was bad. Another educational authority urged the necessity of move attention to housing, inspections during the flood revealing bad conditions.
