LEVEL CROSSING GATE.
In a new kind of gate for railway levelijrolsfngs has been invented. This gate does not work on hinges, but is connected at each end to stout iron pillars, and can 'be lowered and raised like a lift.
When it is up t!io road is clear for traffic to cross the rails, but when it's down it's down.
It works on the principle of a catapault. If a motor cur hits it the gate simply gives a.few. feet ajid ,then- pnslies the car back again. In future tlie careless motorist who fails tonotteerTlftrjrfhepate is shut will merely be shot lialf-out of his spat, ami find himself and his car bounced back into safety-
