EXPORTS AND IMPORTS.
THREE YEARS' BALANCES. The value of the exports from Xew Zealand for the quarter ended March 31 totalled £14,085,021, as compared with £12,1 c>2.570 in the corresponding quarter of last year. £13.100.514 in March. 1021, and £11.408,278 in March. 1020. the past quarter's ligui'cs 'oeing the highest in four years. The imports for the quarter amounted to £10,802.337. as against £8.781.030 in the March quarter'of 1922, £1,1.(538,082 in the same period of 1021, and £0,780,000 in the corresponding term of ISI2O.
In the year curled March 31, 1921. the imports exceeded the exports by the substantial amount of £19.2111.227. and it was this that imposed such a strain on the banks, more especially as this excess of imports was accompanied by a slump in the values of produce. In each of the quarters of that year tue imports were in excess.
