After a trial lasting three days, Frederick .lohn Reudle' and Walter <ioodyer were to-dny sentenced by Sir .lohn Salmonri to six and three month*' imprisonment respectively for conspiracy to defraud ami false pretences. j The evidence of numerous witnesses 1 for the. prosecution showed that Rendle. |wlio i« a tvlegraphist, had l>y arrangeI ni'nt with <;<>odyer s-ent bogus j wire* on the result of the Trentham I\\ inter Meeting, allegedly emanating j from Ooodjvr at Trentham. but actually i lieing sent from Palmemon North by i Rendle after the results were known to jaii alkged bookmaker at Fcilding. j His Honor commented that this was j probably the longest trial in which the i accused had made a statement confessing their guilt.
