POPULARITY OF THE MOTOR. CYCLE.
(To the Editor.) Sir. —In a recent issue the "Star" published an account of an interview with Mr. Ernest Hinds, who has just returned from the States. Mr. Hinds was, I 'believe, interested in motor-cycles in Christchurch, but his remarks as published show him to be entirely out of touch with present conditions. Certainly the niotor-cycle has been very hard hit iby high prices and depression, 'but for him to cay that motor-cycles aye losing ground is an amazing statement, when one considers facts. The American police force are building up a reserve of hundreds of motor-cycles, and the extra 200 police that he quotes as toeing engaged in Loa Angeles were nearly all motor-cycle mounted. In England, the home of the light car, motor-cycles are becoming more and more popular every day, and I could name a dozen instances off hand where Auckland firms have discarded ■the light car in favour of the motoTcycle for commercial use. —I am, etc., R. E. CHAMPTALOUP.
