THE VOTING STRENGTH. (Received 3.15 p.m.} HOBART, this day. The aggregate votini; at the elections was: Anti-Labour, 42,000; Pro-Labour. 25,854. Mr. ,1. A. Jensen (Commonwealth Minister for the Navy) was elected. He replaced a Nationalist (Mr. Bass), but it is not known which party he will support. It is thought that the contest is only a try-on for another attempt at Federal honours. Sir \V. 11. Lee (Premier | stated that tho position was unsatisfactory. The Nationalists' strength would have been much greater only for the large number of preferences exhausted during the distribution. It would be exceedingly difficult to maintain a stable Government, but lie was of opinion that the National Government will carry on.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
