SHORTAGE OF TONNAGE. (By TelegTapn.—Press Association.) | WELLINGTON , , Monday. I I The Prime Minister has received a I i cablegram from the High Commissioner ! stating that the tonnage listed for ; February-March loading is unfortunately' very small, partly owing to the very poor turn-round of ships in New Zealand. The Mini-try is afraid therefore it will ■ not be possible in those months to arrange for heavy cheese loadings except at the expense of the private ship-| ' ment of meat, which will be wanted hero, : and is beginning to accumulate in New Zealand. Mr. Massey has cabled expressing dissatisfaction at the small amount of ship-; ping space allotted to New Zealand for February and March, and urging the immediate transfer of refrigerated steamers to New Zealand for early loading. | A telegram from Tauranga states that' fat stock are co-ning forward freely for the East Coast Freezing Company's i works at Whakatane. Lately 140 head jof beef and between 000 and" 700 sheep 'have been put through daily. Urrless the ; cargo of meat is lifted within the next fortnight the works will have to cease killing operations until space is, avail-, able. I
