TURKISH BLUFF
i SHOWN UP BY EDHEM BEY. I _ ! I """ i I SURRENDER TO GREEKS. j I tßy Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) ] (Received 10.30 n.m.i ! ATHENS, January 30. A communique issued from Smyrna I confirms the report that a Turkish force Jof SOOO under Edhem Hey had surrendered to the Creeks now operating against the Ttirki-'n Nationalists in Asia Minor. Nearly half the Turkish officers and men entered the Greek lines just i when the Turkish propagandist stories of victories by the Nationalists were 'graining credence. It is supposed that Edhem Rev was unkind enough to select the moment for his surrender in order to inflict the most serious damage ho could on the Nationalists' prestige. In the opinion of British observers in Asia Minor the reports of the Nationalists' , military strength are mere bluff. When he surrendered his force Edhem Bey held important positions around Guirorish. His surrender has considerably weakened the lines held by Kemal Pasha, the Nationalist leader.— 'Times." j KEMAL PASHA'S ATTITUDE. I tlteceived -.30 l>-mj 1 ' ATHENS, January 30. | In connection with the invitation to the Greeks and Turks to attend a conference on the Near-East question in London. Kemal Pasha has notitied the Grand Vizier that the Angora Government is the only Government at present in existence in Turkey. He is awaiting j the Allies' direct invitation, when he will submit the following terms for acceptinnce: Firstly, foreign troops must- im ! mediately evacuate Turkish territories; and, secondly, Turkey refuses to pay an indemnity.— (A. and N.Z.
