SEDDON MEMORIAL SCHOOL.
• ■ INSTRUCTION IN SKILLED TRADES. A further grant of £1,000 has been approved by Cabinet for construct on of a new three-storied building as an adjunct to the Seddon Memorial Technical College. Sums totalling £24.000 have previously been authoreed, th.Migh the Education Department did not consider advisable th-o scheme to construct a four-storied building at an estimated cost of £31,000. The new in-stitution is to house the mechanical section of the school, and it was contended by the technical authorities that provision for boot and shoe and sheet-metial workers should be made. In declining to do CTis, the Minister of Education stated that he considered tuition in these two trades more the function of the employer than of the technical school. However, the latest frra-nt ie something of a compromise as the extra money is to cover the coat of making bhe walls of the proposed fchree-etorey bnildin" sufficiently strong to carry a fourth storey When it is deemed advisable to construct it.
