OVERTIME CASE.
CHARGES OF INCITING. . ALLIED IRON TRADED PROSECUTED. The charges arising from the refusal of employees in the Allied Iron Trades to work overtime were continued in the Magistrate's Court to-<lay before Mr. .1. K. Wilson, t>.II. The informations were laid by the Inspector of Awards, <Jcorge Henry jLightfoot (Mr. > Selwyn Mays), who Claimed £-00 from each of the three Allied Ironworkers - Unions, • and .£2OO from the secretary of each, making a total claim of £1200, for alleged by inciting the members to refuse ; work. 1 The defendants arc the Auckland liranch of tlie Amalgamated Society of Engineers, the Auckland Boilermakers, Iron .Shipworkers and and the Auckland Iron and Brass Moulders' Unions: also K. I\ Barker, secretary to tin? engineers, and A. H. Phillips, serreitary to the moulders and boilermakers. I Harold ST. Warner, member of the firm 'of Clare and Warner, continued his evidence, saying that for a while before the trouble his firm had ceased to pay bonus on overtime because the. overtime I and ordinary pay had both been in- ' creased. I themselves. They were hired at so much per hour. John Charles James, works -manager of the United Repairing Co., Ltd.. said his oompanv did work for the Union Shipping Co., tho X.Z. Shipping Co.. the Northern Shipping Co.. ami the Rritish India Shipping Co. He gave evidence regarding certain conditions of work and the dates on which the bonus on overtime was and then recommenced, also the reason why the practice was renewed. (Proceeding.)
