■ ■ MRS. HAMILTON* HODGES. ~ A lady well-known in Auckls.nd musical circles, Mrs. Hamilton Hodges, died at ToleflkOliio, U.S.A. She first came here wf(Fher husband as.a member' of the Fisk Jubilee Singers. Later they settled in this city and taught singing for a number of years, as well as undertaking professional engagements. Mr. Hamilton Hodges is at present residing in Wellington. Some time ago Mrs. Hodges returned to the land of,„lier birth. - .--*'■-•'•- -3 MRS. EMILY BRADXEY. The death took place at her son's residence on Monday of Mrs. Emily Bradney, widow of the late Mr. Joseph Bradney, at the age of 92. IMrs. Bradncy was one of the pioneers of the Dominion, having arrived in the Mermaid in October, 1859. She is survived by a family of two sons and two daughters, one of her children being Mr. J. (H. ißradney, at whose residence she 'died. Mrs. Bradney was a remarkable woman for her years, and retained her full faculties right up to the "time of 'her death. . • \ ..... , I, _■■ .. jff MR. J.-C. EARL. Mr. J. C. Earl, one of the hardy band of gold miners who started on the diggings 'in '1952, and then came across to Gabriel's Gully rush, Otago, and was afterwards on the Kelson and Coromandel fields, has just died, aged 89 years. Mr. Earl was liorn in County Cavan, Ireland, and fifty years ago bought land at Kakahi, near Geraldine, and became a successful farmer. He is survived by three sons and eight daughters. MR. GEORGE RiAIXEY. An old and highly esteemed resident of Ponsonby, Mr. George Rainey, died at his residence, Argyle Street, aged 72 years. He arrived in the barque Columbus in 1875, and was with the firm of Owen and Graham, merchants, Queen Street. Ia 1577, Mr.. Rainey returned to England, and upon coming back to Auckland joined the firm of Messrs. Macky, Logan, Caldwell, and only retired.a few months ago on account of failing health. Deceased was a director of the .Auckland Building Society, and a member of Ponsonby School Committee for a long time. He is survived by his widow, and the . following children, Mr. G. Rainey, manager for Messrs. Hannah and Co. at Whangarei; " r. B. Rainey, of John Court, Ltd.; Mesdames W. Col-well, H. Gallagher, A. Aldrcd, and Miss Hazel Rainey. LIEUT. C. R. F. SODEN. ;Tlie death occurred on Monday, February !>, of Lieut. Cecil Robert Freeth Soden. R.N.R., eldest son of the late Robert Soden, London, and nephew of Judge. 'Soden, Wimbledon, London, SAY. He received his master mariner's certificate at the age of 25 years, and served in the 8.1..5.X. Co.. India, for many years, running "from India to Australia and Fiji. Owing to failing eyesight he left the sea, and went in for farming at Whangaparaoa. He was well respected by all who knew him. He married the only •daughter of the late Malcolm Shaw Darrach. He leaves a widow and one child. Interment will be private to-morrow.
