EXPENSIVE CAULIFLOWERS.
A man who had taken advantage of the privileges allowed the nightman in the matter of entry to private properties came before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M.. today. Charles John Dell (37) admitted that on the evening of Tuesday week and again last AVednesday night he stole a cauliflower from the garden of Wni. Appleton in Mount Roskill. Chief-detec-tive MeMalion stated that accused was the driver of a nightsoil cart, and committed the thefts in the course of his rounds. The two cauliflowers taken were valued at 20/, as they were being grown especially for seed. Accused was a married man, with five children, and his wage was about £5 a week. Dell said he saw the cauliflowers going to sped, and thought they were little use. His Worship remarked that the offence was more one of mischievous "cheek" rather than ordinary theft, and fined accused 40/ and ordered 'him to pay 20/ for the cauliflowers taken.
