The Legislative Council defeated the Child Maintenance Bill, Sir Joseph Carruthera moving a vital amendment proriding that where wages exceeded the Board of Trade's living wage, the declaration of increases granted by the Court should diminish on a sliding scale until the amount of £3nO a year is reached. This was carried by 'IS to 14. j (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
