TAXING PITY ON RUSSIANS. LONDON, October 14. An Englishman who has just arrived from North Russia, describing scenes at I the final withdrawal, says that the I British evacuated many persons compromised by our occupation. : The most pathetic cases were those |of unmarried women, of perhaps not untarnished reputation, who greatly i dreaded the perils following the departure of the British. •| The informant continued: "One of i the things to be counted to the eternal I honour of our forces was the number jof indisputable cases of marriage for motives of purest chivalry by British , j and Allied soldiers with ' these lonely J and unfortunate beings."
