ACCIDENT AT ELLERSLIE.

HORSE KJXXED. , RIDER INJURED. While 'being given walking exercise on the Ladies' Mile this morning, the racehorse Winning Shot was startled by a , dog, and taking charge of her rider, • lad named Crotcher, bolted down the hill, to the Ellersl-e township. The Ladierf Mile runs into the Panmure Road, opposite Messrs Jackson Bros', store,' and as the horse instead of turning the corner dashed straight on, colliding with a Chinaman's cart which was passing on the way to town with a load of vegetables. The lad Crotcher was thrown - heavily, and the horse had his leg ■broken in four places, having to be^de-, stroyed. Crotcher, -who is employed by" 'Mr. F. Stenning.. of Green Lane, wm attended to by Dr. Grant, and afterwards removed to the hospital- Winning Shot, the animal destroyed, is a sixmare by Signor—True Shotj, and was owned by Mr. H. E. White, who purchased her towards the end of laet year at a fairly long figure, but sb* failed to Tvin a race in his colours.
