SCARCITY OF HOUSES.
l | (To the Editor.) Sir, —May I he permitted to endorse J "Sufferer's" statement re the scarcnty jof houses. I quite agree with "SuiTerer" tliat it is high time something was done ' r to prevent this profiteering. As one who ' is suffering the discomfort of rooms I l would like to state that I am living in a house of seven rooms, which is at pre- _ sent sheltering three families. We have all received one month's notice to ' quit as the owner is tempted by the I high prices of houses, but on rushing off ' r to apply for rooms (houses being uns obtainable) are always met with the I same cry of too late. Fortunately we possess a tent, which, in the event of t our being forcibly ejected, we can pitch L in some neighbouring park, as suggested . by "Sufferer." One of the other two ' families have bought a house, but al- ( though the present tenant of their house . has had fchree months' notice, he is I presumably suffering like ourselves from _ the same old cry, "Too late." Surely it V is time the "'powers that be" took some steps towards remedying the position that is really aci-te. —I am, etc., FELLOW SUFFERER.
