ST. PAUL'S PARISH AVAR MEMORIAL.
'■ (To tVe Kilitor.l Sir, —'As naturally much comment and ! not a few gibes have been made with ' respect to the clow progress in the erection of the above memorial, would you allow mc a brief space in order to enlighten the public as to the real reason for the delay. Though we are still about £90 short of the amount (£75(1) required to meet our present commitments on the j contract, this is not in the least the i I reason for the stoppage of the work. 1 The erection of the shelter has proceeded •as far as the window sills, for which ; Oamaru stone is specified. The delay is simply due to the fact that the quarry ! o\vners, after keeping the contractors j waiting for over three months, found ,' themselves unable to supply, and fresh negotiations have had to be entered into i with another firm, from whom, 1 am glad to say, advice has jiiot been received !of a shipment coming forward almost immediately. On its arrival there should be nothing to prevent the work being pushed forward to completion without i further delay.—l am, etc., CECIL A. B. WATSON, Vicar. St. Paul's Vicarage, November 3, 1919.
