VETERAN JOURNALIST DEAD.
• I: MR. ALEXANDER McMINN. . V A gentleman well known in journal-' ; istic circles throughout the Dominion. Mr. Alexander McMinn. died at his residence, Albert Road. Devonport, yesterday. Deceased is survived "ay his widow and an adult family. One son, "Mr. Gordon McMinn. is on the Press in Bendigo. Another son, Mr. A. McMinn, who died last year, was one of the All Black New Zealand football team. The -late Mr. Alexander McMinn was born in England and educated at tho Moravian College. lie came to NewZealand when little more than a lad, and lived a great part of 'his life in Taranaki, Wanganui, and Manawatu. At W.inganui he was with the late Hon. .John Ballance in journalwtic work. Mr. McMinn al-o saw service with the Wanganui troopers during the Maori War. When a j-oung ninn he lived some time in Auckland, and had interestinK stories to relate of the whaleboat races in the regattas of the early days. During his long life Mr. McMinn wiw connected with a number of newspapers, and was at one time proprietor of the "Evening Standard" in l'nlmen-itoii North. Later, he was nub-editor on the "Wairarapa Daily Times.'' Towards Uie evening of his life Mr. McMinn came to Auckland to reside, and was engaged on the literary staff ot the "Star" until a few weeks "ago. For some time past Mr. McMinn suffered from heart trouble.
