TO-DAY'S PEACE COLLECTION. The city and suburbs are being we patrolled to-day by ludy workers in tl ""Peace collection"' which is beirog take for the benefit of the poor folk of tl community. Many a widowed mother •waging an unequal fight against heav odds with poverty, while the aged ar orphaned people, the needy sick, ai many others i:i our mid.-t who are de titute or at the best sorely distress* Lv the pinch of poverty, are ail v.ortl objects of compassion and help at time when tin? nation is in v mood thankfulness and relief. Among tl organisations which will benefit by tl offerings put into the boxes to-day a: the various orphanages, the SalvatiArmy homes, Prisoners' Aid Society, tl Ladies' Benevolent Society, and Uoor Hope, and several other charitab bodies- Apart from the street c-olle tion?, house to house visits are beii made in some localities, while gifts clothing, produce and of anything of useful nature, will also be gladly a cepted at the Women's Patriotic Leajri rooms. Town Kail, a special appeal beii made for blankets, clothing, boots, ai shoes, articles of necessity at this tin of the year, which are almost prohil xive to the slender purses of the poor the present high priors. The eollecth boxes will continue to make their pi for those who are in dire straits till fi o'clock this evening, and the. distributi of the proceeds of the appeal will presided over by the City Coun Finance and Legal Committee who w be assisted by the Womens Commitf __. the Town derk. . .. _ __,
