TAXATION OF INCOMES.

- "?EHE DOUBLE IMPOST. A REJECTED EXEMPTION. LONDON, July 17. The House of Commons debated the finance Bill to-night. Mr A. Shaw, Liberal member for Kilmarnock, moved a clause exempting from income tax overleas produce sold in the United Kingdom by non-resident colonial firms. It was defeated by 76 votes to 19, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Austen Chamberlain, saying that the clause would give colonials undue preference over the Home producer. Mr. Chamberlain refused to increase the limit of exemption from the income tax to £250, but agreed to increase the allowance for the wife and first child. — .(A and ISJZ. Cable.)
